Walking across Sanctuary sounds romantic for about ten minutes, then your boots start to feel like bricks. Once you’re hopping between dungeons, Helltides, Legion Events, and odd little side routes, a good horse isn’t just cosmetic. It changes the rhythm of the game. Players who already care about builds, gear, and D4 items usually end up caring about mounts too, because collecting them gives you another reason to roam every corner of the map.

Getting Your First Horse

Your mount journey starts with Donan’s Favor, the priority quest tied to the campaign around Act 4 in Kyovashad. It’s short, but it matters. Once it’s done, riding is unlocked for your account, so new characters can saddle up from the start. The first reward is Old Nell Steed, plain but useful. After that, the Stable Master opens up a few simple choices for gold, including basic looks like the Grey Steed and Mottled Steed. They won’t make anyone stop and stare, but they’re clean, cheap, and a nice first step before the real hunt begins.

Regional Mounts Worth Farming

Some horses come from simply playing in the right place. That sounds vague, because it is. You kill elites, clear events, open chests, run around, and hope the reins drop. The Fractured Peaks can give you coats such as Pale Steed or Taiga Roan. Scosglen has earthier looks like Granite-Coat Steed and Spotted Shale-Coat Steed. Dry Steppes players may see Dustback Steed or Striped Steppe Steed, while Kehjistan offers Blood Bay and Buckskin Bay. Hawezar, muddy and unpleasant as ever, can drop Marshback Steed and Marsh Roan Steed.

Event Drops And Goblin Luck

The Spectral Charger is still one of the coolest free mounts in the game. It has that ghostly glow, and yes, people notice it in town. Your best shot comes from Legion Events, especially when the group keeps the mastery objectives alive. Treasure Goblins are another story. They’re messy, sudden, and easy to lose if you’re distracted. Drop everything when one appears, because the Decaying Steed is tied to them. A few habits help a lot.- Keep an eye on the minimap during open-world farming.
- Use mobility skills as soon as a Treasure Goblin starts running.
- Join Legion Events early, not after the first wave is already dead.
- Open caches and chests while staying inside your target region.

Prestige Mounts And PvP Rewards

Some mounts are less about luck and more about proving you can handle pressure. The Bloody Liquid Steed comes from beating the Echo of Lilith, which is still a serious test for many players. It’s not the kind of reward you stumble into. Over in the Fields of Hatred, the Bloody Steed asks for Red Dust instead. That means PvP, cleansing Seeds of Hatred, killing local threats, and surviving long enough to spend the currency. It’s risky, but that’s the point. When someone rides one, you know they’ve been in the dirt.

Seasonal And Premium Choices

Diablo 4 keeps adding mounts through seasons, premium bundles, and special editions, so the stable never really feels finished. Temptation, Light Bearer, Celestian, Eventine, and Scarred Mare are the sort of names collectors watch for when new rewards rotate in. Don’t stress about owning everything at once. Pick a route: farm zones, chase events, push bosses, or work PvP when you’re in the mood. If you’re also upgrading builds or checking cheap D4 items while planning your next character, treating mounts as a side project makes the grind feel much less dry. -
